After finishing high school in Bjelovar, Damir Ivanković graduated from FER in Zagreb in 1996 with a major in computer science. After graduation, he was employed at Informatika-sistemi from Zagreb, where he worked on the development of POS systems, data synchronization and database development based on Oracle technology. In 1999 he was employed at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split as a specialist in data management and application development. In 2010, he was appointed the head of the data center. He is the author of over 40 professional and scientific papers. In 2023, he received his PhD from FESB in Split on the topic "Spatio-temporal data management achieved by connecting graphical representation with maps". He is married and father of three children.
