What do Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and bad DB design have in common? They all can keep you up at night!Designing is one of the most crucial stages of the software developmentprocess and a good DB architecture is one of the keys to good qualitysystems. Unfortunately, bad decisions made at the database design stage canhave a very negative impact on the performance and management of the systemand in extreme cases, it’s a real horror to handle. These errors areenormously costly - fixing is very time-consuming and often requiresrefactoring and redesigning a large part of the system. The good news isthat with some planning and thinking, these real horror cases can be avoidedand a good design can be a solid base for our software. In the session, we will investigate some of these extreme cases and theirimpact on the system, and hopefully, just like most horror movies, we’llmanage to beat the monsters.
